About the PS5 Simulator Project.

A volunteer engineering team building the leading cycle-accurate ps5 simulator. Two and a half years in, 598 commercial titles playable, MIT licensed, accuracy-first design.

From a fork to 598 playable titles.

The PS5 Simulator Project started late 2023 as a clean-room effort to model PlayStation 5 hardware at cycle level. A handful of homebrew engineers — RPCS3 and Higan veterans — set out to map the PS5's Zen 2 retire pipeline, RDNA 2 wavefronts and Tempest 3D audio into a cross-platform simulator. By mid-2024 the proof-of-concept ran Astro's Playroom.

The team is fully volunteer — no company, no investor capital, no commercial roadmap. Contributors come from twelve countries and coordinate on GitHub and Discord. The MIT licence keeps any future fork free.

Releases ship weekly with the week's accuracy patches. Cycle-accurate fixes are durable — one fix often clears five games at once, because the underlying behaviour is now modelled correctly. The ps5 simulator for pc and ps5 emulator for mac share the core.

Three things this project will not do.

  • Never compromise accuracy. Speed hacks that break cycle-accurate behaviour are rejected at code review — accuracy regressions block release.
  • No telemetry. Zero analytics endpoints, zero crash-reporting hooks, zero outbound network calls in the shipped binary.
  • No commercial fork. MIT licensing keeps the project free in perpetuity. Anyone selling a paid "premium" PS5 simulator is reselling volunteer work the team gives away.
