PS5Sim
for Mac.

The Mac build of the open-source ps5 emulator. Native Apple Silicon binary, Metal 3 renderer, no Rosetta. Runs on M2, M3 and M4 chips. Free playstation 5 emulator download — MIT licensed.

Metal 3Native renderer
arm64No Rosetta
~110 MBSingle .dmg

Built natively for Apple Silicon.

The Mac build targets Apple Silicon end-to-end. Where the Windows port talks Vulkan, the Mac port talks Metal 3 directly — no abstraction layer. Same 598 cycle-accurate playable titles as the ps5 simulator for pc; the ps5 simulator ships the library.

Install in four minutes flat.

  1. Pull the Mac build

The PS5 emulator download for Mac is a ~110 MB .dmg from GitHub releases. Verify SHA-256 before mounting.

  2. Install Xcode Command Line Tools

Run xcode-select --install in Terminal. The Mac PS5 emulation core needs Metal shader compilers from the CLT package.

  3. Drag the app to /Applications

Mount the .dmg, drag PS5 Emulator.app into Applications. First launch: right-click → Open → Open to bypass Gatekeeper.

  4. Add your firmware

Firmware not bundled. Place your own dump in ~/Library/Application Support/PS5Emu/firmware — wiki documents the legal extraction.

Unified memory matters for cycle-accurate simulation. The PS5 uses GDDR6 shared between CPU and GPU — Apple Silicon's unified pool maps onto that model almost 1:1, so the simulator skips the host-to-device copy step that throttles discrete-GPU Windows builds.

What's unique to the Mac simulator.

  • Native arm64 binary. No Rosetta. Compiled directly for Apple Silicon.
  • Metal 3 renderer. MetalFX upscaling — 4K with cycle accuracy intact.
  • Unified memory path. Eliminates the CPU↔GPU copy — 8–12% throughput win.
  • Battery-saver mode. Caps framerate at 30 FPS off-charger.
  • DualSense over Bluetooth. macOS pairs DualSense natively — accurate haptic curves.
  • ProMotion adaptive sync. 60–120 Hz on ProMotion panels.

Mac-specific FAQ.

Does this PS5 simulator work on Intel Macs?
No. Apple Silicon only — Intel Macs lack Metal 3. For Intel hardware use the ps5 simulator for pc via Boot Camp.
Why is M3 Max faster than M4 Pro?
M3 Max has 40 GPU cores; M4 Pro has 20. Cycle-accurate PS5 emulation is GPU-parallel-bound — raw cores win.
What about macOS 13 Ventura?
The Mac build refuses to launch on macOS 13 — Metal 3 only ships on macOS 14+. Upgrade or use Windows.
Does the Mac simulator support eGPU?
No. Apple Silicon Macs don't expose eGPU paths — the internal GPU is the only renderer.
